These hand-tied smudge sticks are made from organically grown California White Sage. Discover the powerful smoke that Native American tribes have revered for thousands of years. Each smudge is 4″-5″ long and about 1″ thick. Palo Santo (Bursera graveolens) is an intensely aromatic tree native to South America. Palo Santo has a sweet scent with hints of vanilla, mint, and citrus. Its name translates to “Holy Wood” in Spanish, and has been used by saints and shamans alike for centuries. When burned, Palo Santo releases a fragrant smoke which many believe to uplift energy and aid in spiritual purification. Use it to promote calm and dispel misfortune. Burn it before meditation, to clear thoughts or focus concentration. Burning instructions: Hold Palo Santo over an open flame, tilting the end down at a 45 degree angle. Once lit, let the wood burn visibly for one minute, relighting as necessary. Blow out the Palo Santo stick and allow to smolder. Because of Palo Santo’s particular resinous quality, the embers may self extinguish after a few minutes. This means the wooden incense can be relit and enjoyed many times.

The tree remains uncollected for three to four years. Cutting a Palo Santo tree without the decomposition process won’t result in the same benefits.
✅ Use a match or a lighter to ignite your Palo Santo. Hold your Palo Santo at a 45 degree angle with the point of the stick touching the flame. Let the wood stay lit for 30 seconds, and then blow the flame out. Allow the smoke to fill the space that you need to cleanse. When you are finished, lay the wood with the ignited tip downward in a bowl. It will put itself out.
