I created this little book because I wanted to share a simple and beautiful ceremonial practice that I learned from my beloved Peruvian mentors and from the traditional medicine people that reside in the Andean highlands. After many years of study and travel to Peru, the Andean despacho ceremony became a regular and powerful personal healing practice for me and my family, after experiencing some devastating personal losses of loved ones, and throughout the pandemic. Despachos are prayer offerings, beautiful mandala-like creations, made with symbolic objects, sweets, grains, flowers, and more. They are a representation of our relations, beautiful little altars representing the cosmos, and our own place in creation. They are done for a multitude of reasons and for many occasions: to dialog with Spirit, to heal, to connect with nature, to transform, to celebrate, to honor, to manifest. It is my hope that readers will be inspired to connect with nature and the sacred, and perhaps begin to incorporate ceremony and ritual into their everyday lives.
