Hymns are prayers.

Early hymnals were often published as words only. As it became common to include music, the words of the prayer were all together on the left page and the music on the right page. This made it easy to concentrate on the words or the music.

Eventually, this went out of fashion and now hymnals have the words inserted between the lines of music.

But it is hard to concentrate on the words of the hymns when published this way. So we have created a prayer book that makes it possible to concentrate on the words of the hymns alone for prayer, study, and meditation.

This is a book that might be welcomed in an Adoration Chapel in your parish or as a gift for a friend. These hymns were written over centuries and are said to have gone back as far as St. Augustine.

All 295 hymns with music are in our A Catholic Book of Hymns series in full four-part harmony.
