In my tiny home office the window is in front of my desk. In the afternoon the sun shines right in my eye to the extent that I cannot see anything on my laptop. I tried different dark shades, bamboo shades, etc. Nothing worked to my satisfaction. I got these blackout shades because they did not require additional hardware or drilling. This turned out to be what I really needed. I can control the amount of the sun light by rolling the shade up or down so I don't get the sun shining straight in my eyes. I like it. It is a little pricey for such a simple thing as a shade but it worked for me very well.

Manually Roll up Shades

These do black out the room. My shade came with a hole the size of a pin.
Setup took longer than it should have when following the instructions.
I recommend laying the curtain out flat then adjusting the length of the rod on top of it, inserting the rod and then hang your shade.
This shade has a silver strip at the bottom where you insert the rod, I would have liked the whole shade to be black.
The adhesive used to stick to your window is strong and easy to set up.
The instructions want you to roll up your shade and then pop the plastic end pieces on to hold it in place.
It fit our window perfectly and I was able to roll these up while leaving the end pieces on and just sandwhiching them between the window frame.

I don't like these shades as I was under the impression they were quick and easy to roll up.
I prefer a blackout curtain as that is easier and faster to use.
If these were automatic or spring loaded to ravel and retract I would have been much happier.
The material feels cheap and all pieces are plastic except for the magnets.

Easily installed. I have installed these a week ago and have not had any issues with the adhesive. It completely blocks the sunlight. It also helps keep the heat from the sun entering through your window panes. It looks great. The magnetic clips are easily removed and attached, which makes positioning them easy. It is lightweight, so no heavy lifting is involved. I really love these!

He said no to traditional blinds and curtains but was willing to go for this sleek option for times he wants to block the sunlight.
